Publishing raster catalog or mosaic

Hi,

I need to publish raster data as a background mapping so no analysis andd querying necessary. I will do it as a mapping service and cache them but I do not sure whether I shall create mosaics or raster catalogs for my data. Is there in diffrence in performance ?
